Anticipated questions

Keep calm and march on!

The 1st annual March On! will be hosted by the staff and cadets of 540 Golden Hawks Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

This competition will be open to units within the GTA.

Competition teams will be:

  • Military Band
  • Drill without Arms Team
  • Drill with Arms Team

While the Area office has graciously assisted with facilitating a competition venue, this is not an Area office funded event.

A nominal cost per head will be charged to attend. This cost will go towards competition medals as well as lunch for all in attendance – the host unit will be taking care of lunch logistics for all who attend.

Information sessions will take place to hopefully answer other questions.

Core principles

This competition has been designed to be fun, enjoyable, and educational experience for all. With that in mind we have built the competition with the following core principles in mind.

Competition Integrity

The hosting unit will not compete or be evaluated by judges during the competition. Performances will be for entertainment purposes only.

Judging Impartiality

Every effort will be taken to prevent conflicts of interest for judging staff and ensure they are not marking their own teams.

Data Transparency

Scoring will be transparently performed and a digital scoring sheet will be provided to all competing teams.

Feedback sessions will be structured in a way to provide meaningful feedback to competing teams.

Joint Teams Encouraged

Units are encouraged to partner up and submit a joint team to help ensure maximum participation.

No Minimum Time Limits

Teams are encouraged to showcase a freestyle, even if it’s for only 30 seconds.

Inspection Transparency

Team coaches will be permitted to join the uniform inspection party to (silently) observe and note feedback.

Lunch Logistics Managed!

The host unit will take care of lunch logistics including ordering and serving meals. An entry fee will be charged to offset this cost.

Video Recordings

In the spirit of helping all teams improve, full-length video recordings of the entire day will be provided to all.

Cadet Leadership

The host unit’s Staff Cadets will be primarily responsible for execution of operations on the day of the competition.

Pre-Competition Briefings

Pre-competition briefings will take place to help ensure Coaches and Commanders understand rules, competition schedule, and provide a forum to ask questions.

Post-Competition Feedback

Lessons learned session will be conducted and teams will be encouraged to provide their suggestions for open discussion.
